This Way Up

I DISCOVERED THIS GREAT ANIMATION LAST WEEK AND THOUGHT it would be fun for Saturday morning. This is a really well-done animation and it’s won so many awards I can’t list them all here. So sit back and enjoy the show!

Synopsis
A.T Shank & Son have a bad day at the funeral parlor when a falling boulder flattens their hearse. Emotional and literal pitfalls lie in wait for the odd couple as they make their way cross country with just a coffin for company.

This short animated caper puts the fun back into funeral as their journey and relationship unravel on an epic scale.

Part of the BBC Comedy Shorts commissioning scheme, which was funded by BBC Films and BBC Comedy.

Short fact:
“We’ve been trying to find the time to make a film for a long long time, and when The Animation Show said “here’s some cash, get it to us in 6 months” it gave us the kick up the backside that we needed. “We would like it to be a comedy...” they said, “...no more films about death”. “Well, we’ve got this story about two undertakers...” we said.

So that’s how our ‘Death Comedy’ was born. It’s a simple tale about a father and son who have a very bad day at the office. And how their determination to finish the job with as much dignity as possible allows them to find respect for each other. We hope you enjoy... ”
